Episode 1.1 - Second Draft

I took a second run at the script for Episode 1.1 in preparation for my recording session with Lucy Rubin next week. Nothing major changed, just a couple of character moments (now that I understand Cassie a lot better) and I removed a couple of redundant exchanges.

Stylization

For anyone who still doesn't get the difference I tried to draw between overly realistic ("photographic") textures vs. something a little more stylized, I present the following experiments in detailporn:

RealHomer by Pixeloo
RealSimpsons at Destination Creation (but watch out for this site's mystery-meat navigation...)

If, after looking at these, you still don't get what I'm talking about, I can safely conclude it's just me. But I'll just say this: pores may not necessarily make portraits look attractive.

Podcast Problems?

Friend-of-the-Blog Lehsa writes:
This is a general comment... I can listen to your Podcasts on my computer but when I downloaded them to my player (Zvue) it wouldn't play it. :( Kept asking me to go to the next file or delete. :P

Just thought I'd let you know.
I'm still catching up but so far I like what I'm hearing. :D
Anyone else having these problems? Any advice for Lehsa?

Podcast #16 - Now LIVE

Podcast #16 - "More than just another Slimy Suit" - is now online. In this episode, I talk about the myriad of tasks involved in creating an animated film, with a bit of emphasis on the much-overlooked and somewhat maligned role of Producer. Learn how a pair of producers (yes, producers!) saved my award-winning film from certain incompletion. Music from Flakes by Herman Witkam.

Podcast #15 - Now LIVE

Podcast #15 - "With a Little Help from my Friends" - is now online. In this episode, hear a sample of Lucy Rubin, the new voice of Cassandra Quinn. Also, listen as I talk about carrying heavy boxes and refusing help when it's offered, and finding that obscure difference between CG Artist and Writer-Director. Music by Tim Larkin.

First look at the Cassie model

Well, I've been too snowed under recently at my Day Job to really do much on Moon Town. However, have no fear - my friend Delaney over at Bully Entertainment was able to take a few moments out of his busy schedule and ride to the rescue, doing a really nice first pass on the Cassandra Quinn model before he got sucked back into his work.

This is great to have, and I'll be able to build on his excellent start. I hope to have her finished, textured, and have a short animation test done by next podcast (MAY 9, 2008).

Cassandra Quinn is cast!

I'm pleased to announce that after months of doing research and listening to dozens of audition tapes, we've found the perfect voice for Cassandra Quinn: Lucy Rubin. Lucy is a talented British voice actor here in the DC area, and she'll be bringing the role of Cassie to life in Moon Town. We're very excited to have Lucy on board!

Podcast # 14 - Now LIVE

Podcast #14 - "Notes from the Video Showerphone" - is now online. In this episode, I once again wax philosophical on the subject of video phones and flying cars, scantily clad Hollywood starlets and supermodels lathered in soap and fresh from the shower, and the impending Idiocracy in which Average will be the new Excellent. Music by Tim Larkin.

Podcast #13 - Now LIVE

Podcast #13 - "Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us" - is now online. In this episode, I tell how the fractured psyche of Ace Tripline gave birth to two characters, and how Moon Town is trying to become a space Western despite my best intentions. Music by Tim Larkin.
